"Liz was compassionate, proactive, and instinctual about my needs. She provided incredible support and love during a very important time".  Shannon V., Postpartum Client, May, 2016

What is a postpartum doula?

In the history of humans, new families were rarely left on their own due to the constant presence and support of extended family. We weren't meant to go it alone, although today, many women and families are expected to.  I became a postpartum doula so that I can provide support to mothers and  families during this amazing and often very challenging period of adjustment to a new baby. Bringing a baby (or babies!) into the world, and then home, changes everything. Some describe the experience as being akin to suddenly arriving on another planet. Your view of yourself changes, your view of your partner adjusts, and then of course there is suddenly this little squeaky being who lives with you, a tiny person whose very survival is dependent upon you and your care. This is all happening at a time when you and your partner need so much care as well.

Having a postpartum doula come to your home during these early days and weeks can make all the difference. As your postpartum doula, I will lend emotional, practical, and informational support and will help you ease you all into your new roles with more confidence, caretaking and sleep!  I can teach you methods to soothe your baby, be your cheerleader as you feed him or her,  throw in a load of laundry, prep a meal, and answer any questions you may have about newborn care. With many clients, I stay overnight and take care of the baby while parents get some much-needed sleep! When necessary, I am trained to recognize issues, and can offer quality, reliable referrals when necessary. At all times I will provide reassurance and support and the unwavering belief that you can and will be successful in nurturing your wonderful new family.
